HMC declared the company's commitment to environmental causes as a major player in global economy. The company, thus, has integrated the company's assets and departments of environmental technology into one research institute to ensure consistency in the company's environmental policies, from manufacturing and sales to after-sales services and disposal of cars. Such a movement has allowed HMC to adapt to the increasing environmental regulations more effectively. The ETRI has attracted advanced research workforce which conducts studies in the core areas of the environment independently and systematically. The ETRI is the center of HMC's environmental management, while leading the way for the development of next-generation eco-friendly cars, eco-friendly electric engine systems, low-emission systems, recycling technologies, and clean production technologies. The findings and researches from the ETRI bring about significant economic affects spanning the whole auto industry in Korea.
